What are the reasons that make the recent earthquake of Türkiye and Syria more harmful

    On Monday, 6 February 2023, the Southeastern Part of Türkiye near the Border of Syria smite by the two major consecutive earthquake shocks (within 10 hours) has killed more than 46,957 people and toppled the residential buildings in the affected areas. 

The magnitude of First earthquake was 7.8 while the second was 7.6, measured

by the Richter scale and the magnitude 7 is consider more sever. Then Türkiye

struck by 100 aftershocks (small earthquakes that occur after a big shock).

  Pazarcik district in the Kahramamaras province of Türkiye was the center of

the both shocks of the earthquake.  

Reasons for the harmful of this earthquake: 

Here following reasons are discussed below; 

Tectonic plates: 

Basically, earthquake is the result of the crake in the crust of earth where

tectonic plates (earth crust is composed of the gigantic pieces in form of plates

that moves slowly) collide at their edges due to friction that exert pressure and

caused the smite we feel.

 

As Türkiye (Southeast) and Syria (Northwest) lie at the linked point of three enormous tectonic plates (the African, Anatolian and Arabian) hence they became prone of the dangerous earthquake. 

This earthquake was the result of the East Anatolian Fault. 

Soil liquefaction: 

Soil liquefaction is a procedure in which the ground surface lose is strength due to loosely packed sediments and caused Earthquake.

According to United States Geological Survey the soil of Nurdagi(a city of Gaziantep in Türkiye) sometime shows the phenomenon of liquefaction due to moisture of soil. 

Hence due to the phenomena liquefaction enormous damage occurred in Türkiye. 

Time of earthquake: 

  First earthquake smites occurred at 4:17 A.M. As Most of the people were asleep hence, they had the little opportunity to run off from the collapses building during the earthquake. 

Construction of Building: 

 Another important factor is the construction of buildings that collapsed due to the shocks of the earthquake. While some buildings collapsed from top layer to bottom layer making it difficult to save the people who have been inside the rubble. 

Here the government is accountable to people why the modern construction of in Türkiye is unable to coped with the earthquake. 

Climate: 

In February the average temperature of Türkiye is 5-degree Celsius which is a cold weather while the average temperature of Syria is also quite cold. 

Hence the current weather of both the countries making it difficult to save the people inside rubble (as they suffered from cold) and the rescuer. Moreover, road blocks are another hurdle for the rescuer. 

Conclusion; Still there are chances of lives in rubble? 

 

Despite due to the destruction from the harmful earthquake, still the experts and the whole nation are hopeful. Because of a Miracal, a four-year girl rescued from the rubble after 33 hours and an alive Syrian family also pulled out of the rubble after 40 hours.
