 Arshad Sharif [late] was a Pakistani journalist, writer, and senior news anchor. He served in national and international organizations, including the UK. In 2019, he also received the Pride of Performance award. He started his program Power Play on ARY in 2014. 

He supported Imran Khan’s ideology and believed that the vote of no confidence motion was an American conspiracy. In August 2022, he fled Pakistan to avoid arrest after several accusations, including a sedition charge over an interview by PTI leader Shabaz Gill during which the letter made a controversial comment. Alleging a threat to his life, Sharif moved to Dubai and later to Kenya. 

Arshad Shareef was shot and killed in Kajiado (Keniya) by local police on 23 October 2022. 

Statement of Kenya's police: 

                                                  Keniya national police stockman Bruno Shiono had said that a journalist was shot by an officer after his car drove to a police barrier. The Keniya police described the shooting as a cause of ‘mistaken identity’. 

Reaction of media: 

The news of his dismissal was first announced on social media by his wife, Javeria Arshad. 

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shabaz Sharif, tweeted: 

‘Deep sadness over the shocking news of journalist Arshad Sharif's tragic death’ 

Burial of Arshad Sharif: 

His dead body was received by his wife, Javeria Arshad on October 26 and was buried in the H-11 semidry Islamabad on Thursday, October 27, 2022. 

Three-member commission: 

The government of Pakistan formed a three-member commission to ‘ascertain the fact’ of the murder of Arshad under the Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Act 2017. 

Sharif’s mother rejects the commission: 

The mother of Arshad Sharif has rejected the probate commission formed by the federal government. 

She said,

 

             ‘This [commission] is a contradiction to the PM’s announcement. I would urge you not to politize the murder of my son. I want a high-powered judicial commission under the United Nations Human Rights Committee.’ 

PTI’s statement: 

IK said: 

            ‘He paid the ultimate price of speaking the truth.’ 

PTI’s supporters claimed the murder of Arshad Sharif by the establishment as he spoke against the military. 

PMLN’s view: 

Defense Minister Khwaja Asif addresses in a press conference: 

‘Imran Khan used Arshad Sharif's death to gain political advantage.’ 

DG ISPR’s statement: 

Baber Iftikhar said: 

‘We have requested the government hold a high-level commission for investigation.’ He added; ‘It is important to find an answer to the question regarding who forced Sharif to leave Pakistan.’ 

Conclusion: 

PTI’s supporters blamed Arshad murder on the establishment and PMLN’s supporters claimed that the murder was planned in Pakistan and accused PTI. In this way, this became a controversial talk in Pakistan.
